American Pet Diner Premium Hay for Small Pets
Hay is the most important component in a small pet’s diets. Small pet herbivore species require more than 80% of their daily intake from hay. American Pet premium hays are cultivated in the high plains of the Mountain West at an altitude pushing 6,000 feet above sea level. The warm days and cool, dry nights provide the perfect environment slow growth, which for hay means sweetness, more nutrition and higher palatability that small pets can’t resist! When hays grower too fast, in warmer climates, the nutritional content declines and is replace with a high level of woody, non-nutritious lignin. Buyers from all over the world source their hays from American Pet Diner because they are world renowned for quality, nutrition and palatability.

Good quality food just tastes better, we all know that, so feeding your pets American Pet Diner Hay is the best choice. If we eat fast food each day we do not feel as good as we do when we eat fresh fruits, veggie dairy and meats right? Well the same is true for your pets. High quality hay, pellets and treats like ours are like eating fresh food for pets. They will feel and be healthier. These small pets are Herbivores; they only eat plants, and the best plant for them is hay and the best hay is American Pet Diner Hay.
We have 4 different choices of hay to accommodate all stages of life and all different eaters; even the really picky ones! First is our most popular and nutritionally superior timothy hay.
American Pet Diner Timothy Hay is produced from a grass called timothy grass and belongs to the group of hays that are called grass hays grown from perennial grasses planted and cultivated for their sweet, natural green taste and high feed value for small animals. It is considered the best variety for small pets. Many attempt to grow it but none quite as well as we do! Our conditions for hay growing are superb as we have told you before but when it comes to timothy hay we ARE the best; we have been at it for over 100 years and 4 generations of farmers. That gives us the “hop up” on our competition when it comes to experience with quality and your pet will taste it! We have two varieties to choose from both American Pet Timothy Gold Hay and American Pet Timothy High Fiber Hay we will tell you more about them later. Our soft-textured Mountain Grass Hay is high in fiber, low in protein and supports the health of small herbivores similar to timothy hay.

Growing The BEST American Pet Diner Timothy Hay
Timothy hay is cut twice a year on our American Pet farms. A “1st cutting”,, and a “ 2nd cutting” as we call them. These cuttings have slightly different properties in texture, fiber content, and protein because there is more stem and slightly less leaves in first cutting and the leaves contain the protein. The hay grows differently the first time because it is cooler in the spring than it does in the summer. Because of our optimal growing conditions on our American Pet farms; with cool nights and warm days, our hay is grown perfectly to create the best food for your pet. Some companies may sell it all as the same timothy hay in every package but we have found having the different products creates an ideal diet for your small pet never shorting them on nutrition and providing a varied diet ration. Because they are so small quality really matters!
We promise that every single bag of American Pet Diner Hay we sell will only be of the highest quality. We back it up with a 100% money back guarantee. In other words, American Pet Diner Hay is hay that’s green, fresh and sweet smelling every time you open and close a bag, and so much so that your pet would choose it if he could!
Now back to the stuff you need to know….Why is hay important to rabbits, chinchillas, guinea Pigs, and other small pets? It is important to small pets for two reasons. First, it provides the fiber they need at all times. In a small pets unique digestive system it is required to keep food moving and absorbing nutrients. Small pets such as rabbits, chinchillas, guinea pigs and hamsters are herbivores; that means they only eat plants such as timothy hay, mountain orchard grass hay, and alfalfa hay and other plant products like hay pellets, and fresh fruit and veggies (in moderation).
In the wild these animals eat on grasses and plant matter all day, and so they have digestive systems that are best suited for a diet high in fiber. Grass hays are an excellent provider of this much needed fiber and they can be stored efficiently by the owner and so they make the perfect choice to be the foundation of the diet of a small pet such as a rabbit, guinea pig, or chinchilla. Click here for more info on digestive information.
In addition, hay helps to keep their forever teeth worn down. These animals have forever growing teeth that continue growing throughout their lifetime. Just like in the wild, our pets need to be munching away on something constantly during their days so that they can keep their growing teeth grinding down and avoid the many problems that come with overgrown teeth. Click here for more info on teeth care. They must have constant access to good quality hay for nutrition and for teeth wear.
The Smeller Knows!!
One final thing you MUST do when buying hay is give the hay a BIG whiff!! All hay you buy your small pet should smell slightly sweet, with no dusty smell. It should be a shade of bright green either light or dark and be pliable not brittle and have long healthy looking stalks. There should be NO yellowing, dust or mold (which appears as white or black spots). If your hay isn’t all this, then it is time to choose American Pet Diner Premium Hays.
We use our 1st cutting Timothy Hay for our American Pet Timothy High Fiber Hay perfect for pets that need fewer calories and/or more dental wear. First cutting is a bit more fibrous with more stems thus having a higher fiber content (about 32%) and less protein (about 8%) If your rabbit is in need of more wear on their teeth or a getting a little plump we suggest our first cutting hay American Pet Timothy High Fiber. It allows for your pet to consume the same amount of timothy hay to be satisfied and full yet have less calorie intake. Wouldn’t we all love that diet? But it still has that same beautiful green color and delicious aroma and flavor your pet loves every time you open a bag of American Pet hay.
American Pet Timothy Gold Hay is our second cutting timothy hay and is the optimal timothy hay for small pets. It has just enough fiber (about 30%) and protein (about 13%) for your happy little pet. It still allows for teeth wear and has slightly more protein and less fiber than our American Pet Timothy High Fiber Hay, which makes it perfect for everyday use in most small animals. American Pet Timothy Gold Hay is also sun dried and hand-picked to create the greenest, freshest, sweetest tasting hay we are sure your rabbit, hamster, chinchilla or guinea pig will love every time!
The best timothy hay in the world is produced in the high mountains and valleys of the Mountain West region of the USA on our American Pet Diner farms where the days are warm, and the nights are cool, creating the perfect environment for optimal growth and nutritional value.
